Exchange with Torino Vocalensemble
(March / May 2005)
One of the choir's most notable ventures this year was to engage in an
exchange with the highly regarded Torino
Vocalensemble (TVE). This Turin-based choir has gained a
reputation for innovative programming and performance, using
improvisation, extended choral techniques and an imaginative re-working
of old masters.
The Mornington Singers, at the invitation of the TVE, participated in their Voci e incontri festival held in Turin in March. The Mornington Singers were delighted to host TVE on an Irish tour taking in Galway and Dublin, in May. Both choirs joined forces for concerts in Ireland and Italy.
Sagastipean: Songs for Springtime (March 2005)
A programme combining contemporary and traditional Irish works, together
with European works, featuring Xavier Busto, Parry, Elgar and others,
and some arrangements of spirituals. Also presented were new works,
commissioned by the choir, from Caitríona Ni Dhubhghaill and Corrado
Margutti.
The choir brought this programme on tour to Turin (see above).
