2009

Sligo International Choral Festival
The choir were delighted to win two 1st Prizes during our first visit to Sligo. We were awarded both the Independent News and Media International Grand Prix and the Mayor of Sligo Perpetual Trophy (4 part Irish choirs competition).

International Choral Competition Maribor
The award for Best Interpretation of the compulsory Slovenian contemporary composition went to Orla Flanagan and the Mornington Singers. We also placed 7th in the strong field of 12 choirs selected to compete at this prestigious international choral festival.

2008

Lyric FM
Our recording of Lux Aurumque by Eric Whitacre was awarded 1st Prize in the
Lyric FM Choirs for Christmas Competition.

The judges praised the 'quality of singing and commitment to musiciality' and the 'outstanding performance and recording', which was taken from SOLAS, our 2008 CD.

Special award from the Greek jury at Cork, Ireland, 2008 Cork Choral Festival
We were invited to compete in the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition at Cork Choral Festival and were awarded 3rd Prize, from the largest ever field of fifteen top choirs from around the world, including two other Irish choirs.

We were privileged to open the entire competition with Caitríona Ní Dhubhghaill's Is Naofa Thú, commissioned by the choir in 2007 and available on our 2008 SOLAS recording.

Also, our former Chairwan received a special sacred music award from the Greek jury.

2006

In 2006 the International Jury Special Award for the performance of an imaginative and artistic programme in the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition at Cork Choral Festival went to Orla Flanagan and the Mornington Singers.


2005

In the Cork Festival's Premier National Competition, the choir was awarded 1st Prize for Mixed Voice Choirs in 2005.

Also in 2005 we retained the Trofaí Cuimhneacháin Philib Uí Laoghaire, for a setting of An raibh tú ag an gCarraig. This piece was commissioned by the choir from Irish composer Caitríona Ní Dhubhghaill.


Orla is presented with 1st prize in the Premier National Competition for Chamber Choirs, Cork, Ireland, 2004

2004

At the Cork International Choral Festival, the choir was awarded 1st Prize and Distinction in the Premier National Competition for Chamber Choirs.

For our performance of Caintíc Mhuire (Magnificat), we also won the Trofaí Cuimhneacháin Philib Uí Laoghaire for the performance of a part-song in Irish. This work was composed by Caitríona Ní Dhubhghaill, a young Irish composer who has sung with the choir on numerous occasions.
